  • Without last year's tax, the safe harbor is 90% of this year's tax. Enter last year's total tax to see whether paying 100% (or 110%) of it is lower.
  • The tax left after withholding is under $1,000, so no estimated payments are required for this year.

What is covered

Income tax

2026 brackets for all four filing statuses, standard or itemized deduction with the extra amounts for 65 and older and blind, and qualified dividends and long-term gains at 0%, 15% and 20%.

Self-employment tax

15.3% on 92.35% of net earnings per person, the Social Security part up to the $184,500 wage base less W-2 wages, and the deduction for half.

QBI deduction

Section 199A at 20%, the taxable income limit, the specified service phase-out, the W-2 wage and property limit, and the $400 minimum from 2026.

Other taxes and credits

Additional Medicare Tax, net investment income tax, the senior deduction for 2025 to 2028, the $2,200 child tax credit with its refundable part, and the credit for other dependents.

Safe harbor

90% of this year's tax or 100% of last year's, 110% when last year's AGI was over $150,000 ($75,000 married filing separately), and the $1,000 threshold below which no payments are needed.

Installments

The regular method of Form 2210: a quarter of the required payment by each date, with earlier shortfalls carried forward and due dates moved past weekends and holidays.

An estimate, shown in full

Every step from total income to total tax is listed next to the result, so a projection can be checked line by line against last year’s return. Where the planner simplifies, it says so: one combined business for the QBI deduction, the regular installment method, federal tax only. It is a planning tool, not a return and not tax advice.
